About School of Jammin

Our story

Since deciding to learn the guitar back in 1989 as a 12 year old (with a mullet) I've had some of the best moments in my life come from Jammin with family & friends. The sharing of ideas & tips that get passed on from generation to generation through Jammin is my favourite part of learning how to play an instrument.

In the early 2000's (no mullet) I watched the movie School of Rock and loved the stories idea of sharing your learning experience in a band setting.  This inspired me to leave my life as a primary school teacher in 2005 and start the School of Jammin. In this time I have had the privilege of teaching thousands of primary school kids how to Jam throughout South West Victoria.  Witnessing each day the joy, sense of achievement & belonging that Jammin provides kids is awesome.  We invite you to come and Jam with us at your primary school.

 Hope to see you soon.

Cheers Mick

School of Jammin

What we learn

"Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to imagination and life to everything" - Plato

At the School of Jammin we learn how to Jam by learning how to play the KEYBOARD or GUITAR.

Our Musicians will learn all about the 2 key ingredients in any music

RHYTHM & MELODY

To understand their relationship will help unlock the magic of music

We develop in our Musicians:

  • Understanding of RHYTHM, through learning all about bass notes, power chords and chords.  These come in handy for those Jammers who love to sing!
  • When it comes to MELODY we will learn how to play solos & riffs through our understanding of scales and our use of popular music both contemporary and old school
  • Along the way musicians will also develop their playing technique, learn about timing & tempo, discover the secrets of music, jam, create & perform together plus so much more
